Prof Akram Anbari
Foundation
A space for learning about ophthalmology and eye care.
Learn about the teacher and humanitarian whose legacy inspires our work.
Our vision
To build a connected community where knowledge advances eye care, ophthalmologists continue to learn and grow, and patients have access to clear, trustworthy information.
Prof Akram Anbari Foundation aspires to connect education, professional collaboration and practical resources to support better eye health in Syria and beyond.

Humanitarian Eye Care
Our work on the corneal transplantation project at Mouassat Hospital dates back to 1998.
Prof Akram Anbari Foundation has carried out corneal transplantation campaigns in Syria, providing operations free of charge to patients. We are committed to continuing these campaigns, which also include lectures and practical wet-lab training for ophthalmologists.
Campaigns are organised independently or in collaboration with other societies and humanitarian organisations.

Our learning portal
Prof Akram Anbari Foundation brings together branches that support ophthalmology education and access to useful resources. Its academic branch includes Learning Modules and the GCEO Group Platform. The Foundation also carries out humanitarian eye-care campaigns. Further branches will be introduced here as they become available.
The foundation’s academic library brings eye-care subjects together in one place. Members can register, explore lectures by subject, and return to their saved learning progress.
The library is organised into BCSC subspecialty subjects, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and Ophthalmology – Cross-Sectional Topics.
Learning at your own pace
Members can watch video lectures and study the accompanying reading sections at their own pace, with progress saved in their account. To earn a certificate for a video module, members must watch at least 90% of the video on the platform, complete its sections and achieve at least 80% in the knowledge check. Reading modules require completion of the sections and a passing knowledge-check score. Earned certificates can be viewed, printed or saved.
Understanding the content
Our academic library offers video lectures and reading modules across ophthalmology subspecialties, Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and cross-sectional topics. The modules support learning at different levels, from foundational concepts to advanced clinical topics. The collection continues to grow as new educational materials are added.
Educational content supports learning and does not replace an individual eye examination or advice from a treating clinician.

Our collaboration with AAO and ISRS began in 2007. Through this work, we have made educational services from both organisations available free of charge to all ophthalmologists in Syria.
The Foundation’s collaboration with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) is made possible through the efforts of Dr. Anas Anbari.
